What is CRE?

Christian Religious Education (also known as 'Bible In Schools') is when one or more volunteers go into a school and teach a class or large group.

Lessons are usually 30 minutes, once a week - often from 9-9:30am. The curricula endorsed by CEC encourage children to develop solid values through teaching the basics of Christian belief.

About 40% of the schools in Auckland have CRE taught to some year levels in their school. Schools find the presence of a caring adult in a class helps the behaviour of students. One Principal comments:
"I appreciate the time BIS (Bible in Schools) teachers give and the opportunity it provides to children who would not have this knowledge. It provides opportunities for choices."
Another Principal says,
"Children love it and it backs up our values teaching. Good intro to Bible studies."
